Patient One Marine Collagen provides hydrolyzed marine collagen for easy absorption, along with synergistic co-factors that support collagen production. This unflavored powder is odorless and readily dissolves in liquids or soft foods.

As a major component of skin, collagen plays a role in its elasticity and hydration. Collagen helps make sure that cartilage is strong enough to absorb shock and protect joints, while also enabling bones to move fluidly without friction. Collagen is also a vital component of the gut’s connective tissue and may help support the protective lining of the stomach and intestinal walls.

The body naturally produces collagen, though production slows down beginning in our mid 20s. Collagen can be damaged over time by hormones, stress, poor nutrition, pollution and sun exposure.

Collagen Peptides
Patient One Marine Collagen supplies a 12-gram serving of Types I, II & III collagen peptides, sustainably sourced from wild caught, deep-sea fish. Our hydrolyzed peptides feature a small particle size and low molecular weight, allowing the collagen to be more readily absorbed and digested by the body when compared to bovine- or porcine-sourced collagen.

Our formula contains high content of the amino acids glycine and proline, as well as supplies hydroxyproline, a major component of collagen. Hydroxyproline and proline play key roles for collagen stability. Functions of proline include helping form collagen, rejuvenating cartilage, forming connective tissue and maintaining healthy joints, promoting skin repair, and supporting the gut lining. Glycine is found in high concentrations in the body's skin, connective tissues of the joints and muscle tissue. It is one of the key amino acids used to form collagen and gelatin.

Because collagen production requires vitamin C, zinc and copper, Patient One Marine Collagen includes these important co-factors. These nutrients keep the enzymes required for collagen and elastin production in an activated state and help maintain optimal collagen density and stability.

Copper is essential for the cross-linking of adjacent collagen fibers, resulting in a “mature collagen network.” Cross-linking consequently increases collagen network density and minimizes the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. It is also suggested that copper supplementation increases both collagen type I and elastin gene expression. This co-factor also supports cell proliferation, promoting renewal of skin.

One of the many health benefits of zinc is promoting the synthesis of collagen and bone mineralization. Zinc contributes to healthy skin by stimulating gene expression for collagen synthesis.

Vitamin C helps keep the enzymes required for collagen production in their active states. Proline and lysine are hydroxylated through the donation of electrons from Vitamin C, stimulating production of all types of collagen. This process maintains optimal collagenic density and mature collagen networks.

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is also provided in our formula as a supplementary nutrient that contributes to collagen synthesis. By counteracting the effects of IL-1 fibroblasts which inhibit collagen production, HA allows for collagen to be synthesized.

Nearly 50% of all HA in the body is found in the skin. HA is a key molecule involved in skin moisture and collagen and elastin stimulation. Water readily binds to HA, creating a jelly-like dermal space filler between collagen and elastin, which give skin its shape and firmness and help make skin soft and smooth.
