As we age, the body’s collagen and keratin production slows, and hair, skin and nails begin to change. Stress, diet, hormone changes and environmental exposure also play a role in the health of hair, skin and nails. Nearly everyone has some hair loss and thinning with aging. The rate of hair growth also slows. Fingernails grow more slowly and may become dull and brittle. Skin changes are among the most visible signs of aging and UV exposure, including wrinkles and sagging skin.
Patient One Hair, Skin, and Nail Care features a clinically studied dose of keraGEN-IV™, a soluble and bioactive form of keratin–the most common form of protein in hair, skin and nails. Keratin is typically insoluble and indigestible, thus not available to the body when ingested in supplements. The advanced, patented process used to create keraGEN-IV enables the keratin molecule to be made soluble by breaking the insoluble and indigestible disulfide links, leaving an active, digestible form. keraGEN-IV works synergistically with dietary collagen to support the body in producing structural proteins that smooth wrinkles plus strengthen hair follicles and nails. Type I Marine Collagen
Type I collagen is the most prevalent type of collagen in the body and is associated with minimizing fine lines and improving skin hydration and elasticity. It is also linked to fingernail strength and plays a role in growing stronger and thicker hair. Patient One Hair, Skin, and Nail Care provides hydrolyzed Type I fish collagen peptides to replenish key amino acids needed for the body to produce collagen. The amino acid makeup of supplemental dietary collagens are very similar to those in human collagens, making dietary collagen peptides an excellent option for supporting normal body collagen turnover and replenishment. Hydrolyzed collagen provides a small particle size and low molecular weight for enhanced bioavailability.
Collagen and Keratin Co-factors
Our formula supplies essential collagen and keratin co-factors—micronutrients that work together to benefit skin, nails, and hair structures—including biotin, vitamin A, and several minerals in chelated form for superior absorption.
Retinyl palmitate is a pre-formed type of vitamin A that is easily absorbed by the body. Stored until needed, it then converts to retinol and gently provides benefits for fingernails, hair, and skin, including improved skin tone and smoother skin. Studies show it both inhibits the breakdown of collagen as well as stimulates new collagen. Retinyl palmitate works to maintain healthy liver cells that remove toxins from the blood, allowing for the development of keratin and collagen.
Zinc is required for skin cell growth, repair, and function, helps to keep skin elastic and firm and supports healing. As with zinc, copper is needed for the formation of strong connective tissue in collagen synthesis, and both minerals protect cells from oxidative stress. Copper upregulates collagen and elastin components and also contributes to normal skin and hair pigmentation. Both minerals are associated with supporting the reduction of wrinkles and fine lines.
Copper promotes the proliferation and activity of keratinocytes, the cells responsible for snythesizing keratin. Importantly, copper recruits keratinocytes to areas where they are needed, playing a key role in supporting the repair of damaged skin and wounds.
Biotin contributes to the maintenance of healthy hair, skin and nails as it plays a role in protein synthesis and keratin production and is involved in the metabolism and synthesis of amino acids.
